”It's a bit jarring when you need to translate our value and people's commitment into numbers,” notes Ann-Charlotte Thörnblad, chairwoman of Local Development Sweden.

A new compilation based on over 3,000 Leader projects shows how local initiatives create long-term development throughout Sweden!

LEADER contributes, among other things, to: Linking the EU with the most local. Strengthening implementation capacity at the local level. Meeting a changing world through strengthened preparedness and resilience. Complementing other efforts within regional development – including through a bottom-up perspective and a place focus. Placing increased focus on how two subject areas (regional and rural development) fit together.

Local Development Sweden is participating as a gold partner at this year's Rural Parliament in Skellefteå from May 29 to 31. Come and meet us at our booth and take the opportunity to ask questions about what we do, how we do it, and why we do it together! 

Ahead of the election, we have invited all parliamentary parties for dialogue, among other things to highlight the importance of earmarked funds for Leader in the upcoming EU program period.

Local Development Sweden has provided feedback to the Svesa investigation based on the dialogue in various forums we have perceived since we submitted our consultation response.

Local Development Sweden was part of the reference group for the work. We view positively that rural areas are being highlighted and note that vibrant rural areas are seen as still important.

Local Development Sweden emphasizes the importance of LEADER being present throughout the country.

The target group for accessing funds through LEADER and rural development may be perceived as limiting in the proposals submitted, and Local Development Sweden believes that the target group description must be broadened.

Spring is coming and we look forward to continued constructive meetings and dialogue, our members' meeting, annual meeting and the Rural Parliament - among many other things.

On August 27th and 28th, Local Development Sweden met in Stockholm to discuss the ongoing work ahead of the upcoming EU programming period 2028-2034.

The Leader method strengthens Sweden's civil preparedness - with rural areas at the center

This year's national Leaders' Meeting will be held in Visby on October 8-9.

The Government decided on July 11, 2024, to assign a special investigator to submit proposals on how future regional development policy and rural policy should be directed and designed.

We want to showcase this year's best Leader projects!

”Together, a number of possible measures were developed that can lead to simplifications and improvements for applicants and thereby contribute to rural development.”

The long processing times at the Agricultural Agency are expected to continue until at least June 2025. In the fall, recruitment of 15 new case officers is planned, which in the long term should reduce the case load.
